Rockin' in the Bakken

I'm out in North Dakota this week continuing my personal project on the oil boom that's, coincidentally enough, the cover story of this month's National Geographic. I must be following the right story...

Anyhow, here's a shot from my dailies today - courtesy of a freshly fracked well. Some info for y'all: natural gas that rises to the surface along with the oil, etc. is often flared off as waste. Oftentimes it's not cost effective (natural gas prices are low) to capture it and pipe it out, or more likely in this case, it's impossible to dig the frozen tundra to lay a connecting pipe to send the gas away to a refinery.

More to come this week - stay tuned...

More Light Testing...

Doing some more lighting studies for future shoots. Grabbing some inspiration from old masters paintings and what not.

Light Test

Playing around with some new equipment - testing grid spots, big softboxes and white seamless for an upcoming shoot. Channeling inspiration from Dan Winters and Rembrandt. Got some cool results - enjoy!

Recent Photos

I was recently asked to submit some photos for the Bozeman Magpie with the theme of "Montana in Winter". Looking through my archives it quickly became apparent that I'm somewhat of a fair-weather photographer...

So I took it up as a challenge to go out over the weekend and make some images that I could be proud of. These photos were made while visiting a friends cabin at Hyalite Canyon.
